How to measure a polo shirt for the right size
Use a polo shirt that already fits well as your reference and measure it in centimetres. Lay it flat, keep the fabric relaxed and compare the same garment measurements consistently.
Prepare the polo
Place the garment on a flat surface and smooth it without stretching the knit. Use a flexible tape measure and keep it straight at every stage.
Four useful measurements
1. Chest
Measure horizontally just below the armholes, from one side of the polo to the other.
2. Waist
Measure the garment horizontally through the waist area, using the same height when comparing different polo shirts.
3. Sleeve length
Extend the sleeve naturally and measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve edge or cuff.
4. Polo length
Measure vertically from the back collar seam to the lower hem, keeping the garment flat.
Allow for the nature of the fabric
Piqué, jersey and stretch fabrics can behave differently. Do not pull the fabric during measurement, and use the product composition and size chart as the final reference.
Use the same method for every comparison
Chest, waist, sleeve and body length in centimetres provide a more useful comparison than the size label alone.
